E-BIKE WINTER CARE TIPS

Posted by Marcus Van Der Gaag on 06 December 2023

Keeping your e-bike safe and in working order during the winter in the UK is essential to ensure its longevity and your safety when you start riding again in the spring.

We service all e-bikes, pedal bikes and e-scooters – even if you didn’t buy them from us.
Book in if you’d like us to do it for you – call or email us.

Our tips to help you protect your e-bike during the winter months:

Protect the Battery
Remove the battery from your eBike and store it indoors at room temperature. Cold temperatures can reduce battery capacity, so keeping it warm will help maintain its performance.

Safe charging
Charge the battery in a safe place and use a timer – so that it doesn’t stay on charge for longer than is needed

Clean your e-bike
Before storing your e-bike for the winter, give it a thorough clean.
Use a mild detergent and water to remove dirt, mud, and grime. Dry it completely to prevent corrosion.

Tyres
Inflate your tires to the recommended pressure to prevent flat spots from forming. If you have tubeless tires, consider adding sealant to prevent any slow leaks.

Storage
Storage indoors is great, but if you don’t have space, a shed or garage is good too. If it’s outside, use a cover to protect it from harsh weather. Extreme cold and moisture can be detrimental to the bike's components. Make sure it's well-ventilated to prevent condensation. If you can raise it off the ground, that will also help.

Checks
Check all the nuts, bolts, and screws on your e-bike, especially those holding critical components like the handlebars, saddle, and pedals. Tighten any loose ones to prevent issues during storage.
Apply a light layer of lubricant to the chain, derailleur, and other moving parts. This will prevent rust.
Check your e-bike throughout the winter storage time, looking for any rust.
