This route is a beautiful circular cycle ride through the prettiest Kentish country lanes. Halfway round you will reach the Smarden, an enchanting village which was established around the 14th-century at the time when the forests of the Weald of Kent were being cut down to make way for permanent villages. Smarden, is little more than one street, yet it has a host of attractive properties including two large half timbered houses built by prosperous wool merchants during the 17th-century. We can recommend a pub to stop for lunch or refreshments. Alternatively, take a picnic in your panniers. On the way back to the bike centre you will pass Biddenden Vineyards where cyclists are welcomed for a drop-in tasting.
